This position is for an undergraduate research assistant interested in gaining research experience. The researcher will compile results from published equations-of-state (EoS) measurements and help improve and expand EoSAlign, an open-source, Python-based tool that converts and compares pressure calibrations. The goal of the software is to align pressure scales at the extreme conditions found within planetary interiors, enabling clearer comparisons across experiments. No prior experience is required; the position is in person or hybrid.

The research project is to better understand carbon cycling in ocean worlds like Ceres or Enceladus, and their potential for habitability. The work is to create and investigate ocean world simulants using various (chloride and carbonate) salts and organic molecules in a wet-chemistry lab. The aim is to observe growth of crystals, changes in pH during crystal growth, and quantify entrainment rates of organics within the crystal.

Research positions are available to work with images from the airglow imager placed in Alaska, and the “Gravity Wave Zoo” citizen science project (see link below). This project aims to understand variability in the near-space environment and satellite low Earth orbit region through the study of atmospheric waves near ~86km in altitude above Earth’s surface. Tasks will include processing images, uploading data on to the citizen science project, and interpreting both images and citizen science results.

Huius, Lyco, oratione locuples, rebus ipsis ielunior. Duo Reges: constructio interrete. Sed haec in pueris; Sed utrum hortandus es nobis, Luci, inquit, an etiam tua sponte propensus es? This position involves ongoing analysis of airglow images on a weekly basis for uploading to a citizen science project. The student involved with this project has the potential to continue on to further research analyzing the images and citizen science responses/data to help with investigation of atmospheric waves in the near space environment in the polar region. The position can be either in person or remote, and online students are welcome as well as in person students.
