Advising for all freshman, incoming transfer students, and any prospective future ASU students pertaining to SESE majors is done by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences First-Year Advising Center in Armstrong Hall. Please call 480-965-6506 to schedule an appointment. You can click the First-year advising button at the top of the page to visit the College's web page for more information.
Becca Dial is the advisor for SESE majors in Barrett Honors College. Please email her at bdial@asu.edu to set a time to meet.
If you have an advising hold, are a continuing student who has been at ASU for more than a year and want to change your major or add a concurrent degree, or need a full 30-minute appointment to talk about how things are going, please use our online scheduling system (link below) to view the upcoming available appointments and reserve a time to meet.
Students must have their SUNCARD or at least their 10 digit affiliate ASU ID number (beginning with 1000 or 1200) and photo ID when checking in to meet with an advisor. If a student is running late or cannot make the scheduled appointment, he/she should notify the advisor with whom the appointment is scheduled ASAP. Students arriving late may be asked to reschedule their appointment.
Walk-in advising is a quick check-in with an advisor for items such as:
Walk-ins are for continuing ASU students only. Students can drop in any time during the time set for walk-in advising, but students are seen on a first come, first serve basis. The last student will be taken 15 minutes prior to the end time listed on the walk-in calendar. Please plan to arrive early to make sure you get a chance to see an advisor. It is a good idea to call our front desk at 480-965-5081 to verify that walk-ins are going on as planned before travelling to our office.
All new SESE majors have a Faculty Mentoring Milestone listed as a critical requirement on their Major Map in Terms 2 and 4. The purpose of this requirement is to help connect you with a faculty member working in your field to get some of the bigger picture questions answered and to help you work towards meeting your long-term goals while you are still an undergraduate. Your faculty mentor can help you figure out what things you need to do to start preparing for graduate school or finding a job in your chosen field, or they may be able to help you pinpoint the different types of things you can do with your specific degree. It is a good way to connect with SESE in a different way and find opportunities that you otherwise may not know about.
