SESE Workshops for Success

Formerly titled the SESE Development Program, SESE's Workshops for Success prepare both undergraduate and graduate students and postdocs to present themselves successfully in whatever career they choose. They are also designed to connect undergraduates to the people and research of the School.

The workshops provide training in skills not usually covered in an academic degree, for example, pitching (also known as the “elevator speech”), budgeting, recruiting and hiring, interviewing, and negotiating. In any area of human endeavor these are valuable skills; we all need to convince others of our ideas, understand how to create a plan for execution, and then how to choose and lead a team to get it done. This program is designed to both knit the undergraduates and postdocs into the School (these two cohorts are often outsiders) and to prepare the post‐orals graduate students and postdocs for their next career steps.

SESE Workshops for Success are held about a dozen times in the academic year. Each workshop is free to attend and lasts about an hour.
