Facility Details:
- Center for Meteorite Studies (CMS)
Touch a rock from outer space and learn what meteorites tell us about our Solar System. The CMS Meteorite Museum features a hands-on display of rare and unusual meteorites from around the world. The Meteorite Museum is open to the public for self-guided tours Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding ASU holidays. Due to space restrictions, visiting groups must not exceed 15 people. To schedule a guided tour for your group, please contact us at least two weeks in advance to determine availability. Not available Summer 2012
- Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) Facility
Visit the LROC facility and take a walk through space exploration history and observe scientists working on lunar data in the Science Operations Center (SOC). The hallway gallery is available normal business hours; guided group tours of displays and the SOC are available by request on Mondays and Tuesdays. Please limit groups to 25.
- Mars Space Flight Facility (MSFF)
At ASU's Mars Space Flight Facility, scientists and researchers are using instruments on spacecraft at Mars to explore the geology and mineralogy of the Red Planet. Displays in the entry-way are available to the public during normal business hours. Please contact us for guided group tours and limit the group size to 25.
- ASU Planetarium
Offering a starry dome and topical insight, ASU Planetarium audiences can learn about the night sky and the universe today. The ASU Planetarium has a maximum capacity of 50 persons. Daytime group shows (usually for school groups) are available daily; evening shows for individuals/groups occur if enough reservations are made and will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.
- Robert S. Dietz Museum of Geology
Variety of hands-on interactive kiosks and exhibits
- Space Photography Lab (SPL)
The Space Photography Laboratory (SPL) at ASU is one in a network of 17 Regional Planetary Image Facility data centers established by NASA to archive planetary images for use by the scientific and educational communities. SPL houses images and maps from all major U.S. spacecraft missions, along with an extensive library of mission documentation, scientific journals, and Earth and planetary publications. Aerial photographs of the Earth, airborne radar, and cartographic products are also part of the facilty's collection. In association with the Planetary Geology Group, guided tours with groups of not more than 15 people are available by reservation only.
- Flume Lab
Professor Kelin Whipple and his students run experiments on the role of suspended sediment and bedload on bedrock incision using a new recirculating experimental flume built at ASU. High precision sonar sensors are used to track water and bed elevation. This demonstration shows how water and sediment reshape Earth's surface. {Tours available only with advance notice}
