Colloquium 12-2: Dust, Gas, and Star Formation in Dwarf Galaxies

Date: December 2, 2009

Speaker: Deidre Hunter (Lowell Observatory)

Title: Dust, Gas, and Star Formation in Dwarf Galaxies

Abstract:I will discuss what we know about star formation in nearby dwarf galaxies, the relationship of star formation to the gas and dust, and what the LITTLE THINGS project hopes to accomplish. I will also speculate on what it might have taken to initiate star formation in dwarf galaxies and the extent to which processes in nearby galaxies might be applicable to star formation in freshly formed galaxies.

Colloquia is presented each Wednesday at 4:10 p.m. in Physical Sciences F-wing room 173 (PSF 173). Refreshments are served at 3:45 p.m. in the F-Wing lobby.
